Exotic Fruit Program Wednesday At Northbridge Senior Center

NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. - The schedule of programs at the Northbridge Senior Center on Highland Street was recently released. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

A congregate lunch is served every day at the center at 11:30. Reservations should be made a day in advance by calling 508-234-2002. Meals on Wheels are also delivered every day. Call 508-234-2002 to arrange delivery.

HANNAFORD MARKET EXPLAINS EXOTIC FRUIT

There will be a presentation from Hannaford‘s Market in Uxbridge on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 12:45 p.m. Various exotic fruits, will be used explaining their nutritional benefits. Also available will be items to sample, coupons for purchasing explain their “reach for the stars” program. We look forward to meeting Mike and his staff, Hannaford’s manager.

COME ON OUT AND EXERCISE

The co-ed exercise group is in need of participants for its morning exercise group. The format has changed. A video is available to watch, and do the chair exercise. The group meets on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

FRENCH CLUB

The French Group resumes on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 12:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome. It’s a very user friendly program no matter what language you speak.

FALLON REP TO EXPLAIN PROGRAMS

On Wednesday, Sept. 12 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.  a Fallon represenitive will be available to help with any questions you may have regarding your senior plan.

GENEOLGY PRESENTATION

Genealogist Michael Potaski will be guest speaker at the Senior Center on Tuesday,  Sept. 18 at  12:45 p.m. Come and hear what Michael has to say regarding your family history.

LOTS TO DO

There are a number of activities every day at the senior, including chair yoga, bingo, bridge, darts, Wii bowling and Mahjong. Check the schedule at the center.

FLU SHOTS

A flu shot clinic sponsored by the Visiting Nurses Association of Greater Milford/ Northbridge area on Monday Sept. 24 and Tuesday, Sept. 25 from  12:30 to  2 p.m.  Pneumonia shots are not available available this year.

CODE RED EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION
The Northbridge Police Department encourages residents to enroll in the town's new emergency notification system, Code RED. This system will notify you directly of any emergency information. A computer is necessary to register.  The website is www.northbridgepolice.com. Cick on the Code Red and enter required information. Those without a computer, contact the Senior Center for more information at 508-234-2002.

MEDICAL DRIVERS NEEDED
There is a dire need for volunteers to drive local seniors to out-of-town appointments, especially during summer months. Drivers are reimbursed 50 cents per mile. Any time, one day per week, morning or afternoon, location, would be appreciated. Call the senior center for more detailed information.

MEALS ON WHEELS
Due to the recent high volume of Meals on Wheels requests, reservations are needed 48 hours in advance for congregate meals at the nutrition site.


SENIOR POOL LEAGUE
There is a need for pool players for the Wednesday morning League. Drop by to the center, or call and the office and ask to speak to league coordinator Ken Guhman.

CAREGIVERS GROUP
The Northbridge Senior Center’s Caregivers group meets on the fourth Friday of the month. If you are currently caring for a family member or close friend, come and join others who share your compassion.

SHINE
A Shine Counselor is available by appointment only, to discuss Medicare and health
insurance issues. Call the Senior Center for more information or to schedule an
appointment.

ASK THE NURSE
On Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. Pat Wallen, registered nurse, will be available to check vital signs and answer health questions.


DURABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
The Northbridge Senior Center has a variety of durable medical equipment available for
local senior residents, there is no fee for this service. Come into the center and someone
will be available to show you what is available for your needs.
