New Year For Northbridge Seniors Includes Sen. Moore Visit

NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – The Northbridge Senior Center, 20 Highland St., has released its schedule for the next few weeks. The center is from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Fridays.

The Northbridge Senior Center is closed when schools are closed due to inclement weather. When school opening is delayed, the center opens at 9:30 a.m.

A congregate lunch is served every day at the center at 11:30 a.m. Reservations should be made a day in advance by calling 508-234-2002. Meals on Wheels also are delivered every day. Call 508-234-2002 to arrange delivery.

MEET SEN. MICHAEL MOORE

The center will host Sen. Michael Moore, D-Millbury,  from noon to 1 p.m. Jan. 14. Come for lunch at 11:45 a.m. or just come to meet Moore. Lunch reservations must be made by Jan. 10.

WORCESTER TRINITY SYMPHONETTE

The Worcester Trinity Symphonette will perform at 12:45 p.m. Jan. 22 at the center. Lunch is available at 11:45 a.m. Reservations for lunch are needed 48 hours in advance.

120 CLUB

The Friends of Northbridge Elders, Inc. will resume the 120 Club fundraiser the first Thursday in February. The winners of the final drawing of 2012 will be published in the Jan. 26 Senior News.

MONTHLY BIRTHDAY DINNER
The monthly birthday dinner and plant raffle will be at 11:45 a.m. Jan. 22. Anyone celebrating a birthday in January is welcome to attend and bring a guest. Reservations are needed by Jan. 18.

WELLNESS CLINIC
The VNA of the Greater Milford - Northbridge Area, in corporation with the Board of Health in Northbridge is sponsoring a Wellness Clinic from 11a.m. to 1 p.m.  Feb. 12. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this benefit.

SHINE
A Shine Counselor is available by appointment only to discuss Medicare and health insurance issues. Call for more information or to schedule an appointment.

PITCH AND POOL
Pitch and pool players are needed. Call the center for more information.

MEDICAL DRIVERS NEEDED
A need exists for volunteers to drive local seniors to out-of-town appointments. Drivers are reimbursed 50 cents per mile. Any time – one day per week, morning or afternoon – would be appreciated. Call the senior center for more detailed information.

MEALS ON WHEELS
Due to the recent high volume of Meals on Wheels requests, reservations are needed 48 hours in advance for congregate meals at the nutrition site.

MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
The center has medical equipment available for senior residents. There is no fee for this service. Come into the center and someone will be available to show you what is available. In order to serve you better, the center asks you leave your name, address and phone number with the office staff. This helps keep track of our inventory.

CODE RED EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION
The Northbridge Police Department encourages residents to enroll in the town's new emergency notification system, Code RED. This system will notify you directly of any emergency information. A computer is necessary to register. The website is www.northbridgepolice.com. Click on the Code RED and enter required information. Those without a computer, contact the center for more information at 508-234-2002.
