NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – Sen. Richard Moore (D-Uxbridge) honored Northbridge veterans Thursday by placing a wreath at the town's Vietnam War monument as part of his   "Wreaths Across the Worcester & Norfolk District'' program.

This the second year of Moore's program, which he conducts in conjunction with the national "Wreaths Across America."

Moore purchased the wreaths from Mendon Cub Scout Pack 1.

The event brings together local veterans, their families and other organizations to decorate veterans memorials across southern Worcester County in honor of fallen servicemen and women.

"Wreaths Across America"  began 15 years ago when Worcester Wreath Company of Maine had many unsold wreaths and placed them on the undecorated headstones at Arlington National Cemetery, Moore said.

Since then, Worcester Wreath has donated more than 75,000 wreaths, which are placed by volunteers in a wreath-laying ceremony in Arlington each December, a ceremony that is repeated at state and national cemeteries around the nation, Moore noted.

"During this season of giving, we should remember our veterans who gave us the greatest gift of all: freedom," Moore said.
