NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – The Northbridge Senior Center, 20 Highland St., has released its schedule for the next few weeks. The center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Fridays.
The center is closed when schools are closed due to inclement weather. When school opening is delayed, the center opens at 9:30 a.m.
A congregate lunch is served every day at 11:30 a.m. Reservations should be made a day in advance by calling 508-234-2002. Meals on Wheels are delivered every day. Call 508-234-2002 to arrange delivery.
The menu the week of Feb. 18 through Feb. 22 is as follows:
Monday: closed'
Tuesday: Hot dog and bun, baked beans, coleslaw, fresh fruit.
Wednesday: Shepherd's pie, green beans, harvard beets, fruit crisp, granola bar.
Thursday: Chicken Cantonese, herb potatoes, broccoli, chocolate chip cookie.
Friday: Potato crunch fish, O'Brien potatoes, honey glazed carrots, peaches.
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
The Northbridge Senior Center and Tri-Valley Nutrition site will be closed Feb. 18 in observance of President Day.
TAX APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE
The Northbridge Senior Center tax program (AARP volunteers) will be available to help local seniors with their income tax filing through April 1. Call the center to make an appointment.
MONTHLY BIRTHDAY DINNER
The monthly birthday dinner and plant raffle will be 11:45 a.m. Feb. 26. Anyone celebrating a birthday in February is welcome to attend and bring a guest. Reservations are needed by 11 a.m. Feb. 22.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
A need exists for volunteers to drive local seniors to out-of-town appointments and to help with the Meals on Wheels program. Volunteers are reimbursed 50 cents per mile. Any time – one day per week, morning or afternoon – would be appreciated. Call for more information.
120 CLUB
The Friends of Northbridge Elders Inc. resumed the 120 Club fundraiser the first Thursday in February. The winners of the final drawing of 2012 were published in the Jan. 26 Senior News.
ASK THE NURSE
Nurse Pat Wallen will check vital signs and answer general health questions from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 26.
FILE OF LIFE
The Northbridge Senior Center will host a program on File of Life presented by the RSVP OF Worcester on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 12:45 p.m. This program could save your life during a health crisis.
PROGRAM ON ALZHEIMER'S
The Alzheimer's Association will present a program "Know the 10 Signs'' on Tuesday, March 12 at 12:30 p.m. The hour-long program with video and audio discusses the myths about Alzheimer's and explains the difference between normal aging and Alzheimer's.
BLOOD PRESSURE CLINICS
Blood pressure clinics with Nurse Pat Wallen will be held Feb. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and March 12 and 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
SHINE
A Shine Counselor is available by appointment only to discuss Medicare and health insurance issues. Call for more information or to schedule an appointment.
PITCH AND POOL
Pitch and pool players are needed. Call for more information.
SAVE THE DATE
The Northbridge Senior Center’s Day Trippers will go to Waltham March 16, to see the musical “A Little Bit of Ireland” following a luncheon at the Chateau Restaurant. Call the Center to sign up or for more information.
MEALS ON WHEELS
Due to the recent high volume of Meals on Wheels requests, reservations are needed 48 hours in advance for congregate meals at the nutrition site.
MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
The center has medical equipment available for senior residents. There is no fee for this service. Go to the center and someone will be available to show you what is available. In order to serve you better, the center asks you leave your name, address and phone number with the office staff.
CODE RED EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION
The Northbridge Police Department encourages residents to enroll in the town's new emergency notification system, Code RED. This system will notify you directly of any emergency information. A computer is necessary to register. The website is www.northbridgepolice.com. Click on the Code RED and enter required information.
