NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – A public hearing on the design of the $7.3 million Sutton Street reconstruction project will be held by the state Department of Transportation on Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in Town Hall.

Officials said the hearing gives residents an opportunity to become familiar with the planned road improvements, and that opinions and comments at the hearing will be considered.

The project includes roadway, sidewalk, handicapped accessibility, drainage, water and sewer, bicycle accommodation and other related improvements on Sutton Street between the Sutton town line and Route 122 in Rockdale.

In addition, the five-way intersection of Sutton Street, Hill Street and Pollard Road will be redesigned for increased safety.

The town is responsible for securing rights of way necessary for the project, and has been doing that, noted James Shuris, director of the Department of Public Works.

Shuris said he plans to hold a meeting for Sutton Street residents soon.

He expects the project will go out to bid in January and construction to begin in fall 2013.
