Northbridge Senior Center Plans Busy November

The Northbridge Senior Center released its November schedule.

NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. - The schedule of programs at the Northbridge Senior Center on Highland Street for the nexxt few weeks was recently released. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

A congregate lunch is served every day at the center at 11:30. Reservations should be made a day in advance by calling 508-234-2002. Meals on Wheels are also delivered every day. Call 508-234-2002 to arrange delivery.

HOLIDAY CLOSING
The Northbridge Senior Center and Tri-Valley nutrition site will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day and Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.


DAY TRIP
A trip to the American-French Genealogicial Society in Woonsocket, R.I. is planned Monday, Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. Cost is $12. Lunch at your expense is planned at Chelo’s. Call Jeannine for reservations and information.


FALLON REP
A Fallon representative will be available at the center on Thursday, Nov. 1 and Friday, November 9 at 10 a.m. to answer questions concerning next year’s coverage.


VETERANS’ DIRECTOR
The town’s new veterans director, Ron Tetreau, will introduce himself to the community and speak at the Senior Center on Monday, Nov. 5 at 12:45 p.m. Everyone is welcome.


WOMAN DOCTOR OF THE WEST
Kate Carney, portraying the first woman doctor of the west, will perform at the Senior Center on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 12:45 p.m. The program was made possible by the Northbridge Cultural Council.


STEALING WITHOUT A GUN
R.S.V.P. (Retired Seniors Volunteers Program) will present the program “Stealing Without a Gun’’ on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 12:45 p.m. The program will discuss identity theft, scams and other identity theft issues seniors should be aware of.


MONTHLY BIRTHDAY DINNER
The monthly birthday dinner and plant raffle will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 11:45 a.m.  Anyone celebrating a birthday in November is welcome to attend and bring a guest. Reservations are needed by Wednesday, Nov. 21.

CAREGIVERS GROUP
The Northbridge Senior Center’s Caregivers group meets on the fourth Friday of the month. The next meeting will be on Friday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. Note the early date is due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

SHINE
A Shine Counselor is available by appointment only, to discuss Medicare and health insurance issues. Call the Senior Center for more information or to schedule an appointment.

ASK THE NURSE
On Tuesday, Nov. 13 and Nov. 27  from 11  a.m. to 1 p.m. nurse Pat Wallen will be available to check vital signs and answer questions regarding general health issues.

FREE LEGAL CLINIC
There will be a Free Legal Clinic on Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon. Appointments are necessary. Call to schedule an appointment.


THREE SEASONS LUNCH
On Tuesday, Nov. 20 the lunch is offered at the Blackstone Valley Vocational School’s Three Seasons Restaurant. Price is $12 for the four course meal. Call the Center for meal choices. Reservations must be made before Nov. 16. Let the center know if transportation is needed.


SAVE THE DATE
The Friends of Northbridge Elders will sponsor a Holiday Day Trip on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 to Waltham. The day will include lunch at the Chateau Restaurant at 11 a.m followed by a matinee performance at 1 p.m. at the Robinson Theater (Waltham High School). Call the Senior Center for more information.

CODE RED EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION
The Northbridge Police Department encourages residents to enroll in the town's new emergency notification system, Code RED. This system will notify you directly of any emergency information. A computer is necessary to register.  The website is www.northbridgepolice.com. Cick on the Code Red and enter required information. Those without a computer, contact the Senior Center for more information at 508-234-2002.


MEDICAL DRIVERS NEEDED
A need exists for volunteers to drive local seniors to out-of-town appointments. Drivers are reimbursed 50 cents per mile. Any time - one day per week, morning or afternoon -   would be appreciated. Call the senior center for more detailed information.


MEALS ON WHEELS
Due to the recent high volume of Meals on Wheels requests, reservations are needed 48 hours in advance for congregate meals at the nutrition site.

SENIOR POOL LEAGUE
There is a need for pool players for the Wednesday morning League. Drop by to the center, or call and the office and ask to speak to league coordinator Ken Guhman.


DURABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
The Northbridge Senior Center has a variety of durable medical equipment available for
local senior residents, there is no fee for this service. Come into the center and someone
will be available to show you what is available for your needs.
