NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. - The schedule of programs at the Northbridge Senior Center on Highland Street was recently released. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
A congregate lunch is served every day at the center at 11:30. Reservations should be made a day in advance by calling 508-234-2002. Meals on Wheels are also delivered every day. Call 508-234-2002 to arrange delivery.
DPW SUPERINTENDENT TO VISIT
Department of Public Works Director James Shuris and Highway Superintendent Rob Van Meter will visit the Senior Center and discuss winter snow removal plans and a pending vote for a new DPW on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 10:30 a.m.
FILE FOR LIFE
A presentation on File for Life and Advanced Directive will be presented Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 12:45 p.m. by RSVP: Rita Sullivan and Jane Berger from the Worcester Medical Center.
BLOOD PRESSURE CHECK
A VNA nurse will be available at the Senior Center on Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for blood pressure checks. No appointment necessary.
WINTER BLUES?
Homestead Senior Care will present a program on how the winter months affect people on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 12:45 p.m.
PLANNING FOR SOCIAL SECURITY
A program on how to secure your future through Social Security Basic Planning will be presented Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 10:30 a.m.
CAREGIVERS GROUP
The Northbridge Senior Center’s Caregivers group meets on the fourth Friday of the month. The next meeting will be on Friday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. If you are currently caring for a family member or close friend, come and join others who share your compassion.

ASK THE NURSE
On Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pat Wallen, registered nurse, will be available to check vital signs and answer health questions.
BREAKFAST TRIP
Seniors are invited to a family-style breakfast at Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School in Upton on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 8:45 a.m. Call the Senior Center to make reservations and arrange transportation.
BIRTHDAY DINNER
The monthly Birthday dinner for those celebrating a October birthdays will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 11:45a.m. Participants are eligible for a raffle to be drawn prior to the dinner.
MELLOWTONES WILL ENTERTAIN
On Wednesday, Oct .24 at 12:45 p.m. The Mellowtones will entertain with fall and Halloween songs. Come for lunch and stay for the program. Wear orange and black and get in the mood for Halloween.
TASTY, HEALTHY MEALS
Registered dietitian Lou Pilczak will offer a program “Do you want to keep your meals tasty while heating healthy?’’ on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m.
CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN
A Halloween celebration will be held Thursday, Oct. 25 at 12:45 with prizes for the prettiest, ugliest, scariest costumes. The program includes Halloween treats, the movie “Beetle Juice’’ and refreshments. Come for lunch and stay the day.
DAY TRIP
A trip to the American-French Genealogicial Society in Woonsocket, R.I. is planned Monday, Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. Cost is $12. Lunch at your expense is planned at Chelo’s. Call Jeannine for reservations and information.
SAVE THE DATE
The Friends of Northbridge Elders will sponsor a Holiday Day Trip on Sunday December 16, 2012 to Waltham. The day will include lunch at the Chateau Restaurant at 11 a.m followed by a matinee performance at 1 p.m. at the Robinson Theater (Waltham High School). Call the Senior Center for more information.
CODE RED EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION
The Northbridge Police Department encourages residents to enroll in the town's new emergency notification system, Code RED. This system will notify you directly of any emergency information. A computer is necessary to register. The website is www.northbridgepolice.com. Cick on the Code Red and enter required information. Those without a computer, contact the Senior Center for more information at 508-234-2002.
MEDICAL DRIVERS NEEDED
A dire need exists for volunteers to drive local seniors to out-of-town appointments, especially during summer months. Drivers are reimbursed 50 cents per mile. Any time, one day per week, morning or afternoon, location, would be appreciated. Call the senior center for more detailed information.
MEALS ON WHEELS
Due to the recent high volume of Meals on Wheels requests, reservations are needed 48 hours in advance for congregate meals at the nutrition site.
SENIOR POOL LEAGUE
There is a need for pool players for the Wednesday morning League. Drop by to the center, or call and the office and ask to speak to league coordinator Ken Guhman.
DURABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
The Northbridge Senior Center has a variety of durable medical equipment available for
local senior residents, there is no fee for this service. Come into the center and someone
will be available to show you what is available for your needs.
