NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – The Northbridge Senior Center on Highland Street has released its schedule for the next few weeks. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
A congregate lunch is served every day at the center at 11:30. Reservations should be made a day in advance by calling 508-234-2002. Meals on Wheels are also delivered every day. Call 508-234-2002 to arrange delivery.
HOLIDAY CLOSING
The Northbridge Senior Center and Tri-Valley nutrition site will be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 to observe the Christmas holiday.
FOOD PANTRY DONATION
The Northbridge Senior Center will accept non perishable food items etc, to give to the NAC Food Pantry. Anyone donating to this worthwhile cause will be entered into a drawing on December 20. No need to be present, the winner will be notified.
RETIREMENT: MAKING YOUR MONEY LAST
On Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 12:45 p.m. Michael W. Tuomala, a financial adviser from Edward Jones, will discuss strategies designed to help you work toward fulfilling retirement expectations.
120 CLUB
The final drawing of the 2012, season of the 120 Club will be held on Thursday, Dec. 20 during the Center’s holiday dinner. Meal will be served at 11: 45 a.m. Reservations are needed for dinner by December 17. The drawings will consist of the twentieth week $20, a $400, $300, $200 and four $25.00 winners.
MONTHLY BIRTHDAY DINNER
The monthly birthday dinner and plant raffle will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 11:45 a.m. Any one celebrating a birthday in November is welcome to attend and bring a guest. Reservations are needed by Friday, Dec.14.
WELLNESS CLINIC
The VNA of the Greater Milford - Northbridge Area, in corporation with the Board of Health in Northbridge is sponsoring a Wellness Clinic on Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 11 to 1 p.m. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this benefit.
SHINE
A Shine Counselor is available by appointment only to discuss Medicare and health insurance issues. Call the Senior Center for more information or to schedule an appointment.
ASK THE NURSE
On Thursday, Dec.27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., nurse Pat Wallen will be available to check vital signs and answer questions regarding general health issues.
PITCH PLAYERS
Pitch players are needed. Also, there is a need for Pool players. Call the center for more information.
SAVE THE DATE
Friends of Northbridge Elders will sponsor a holiday day trip to Waltham on Sunday, Dec. 16. The day will include lunch at the Chateau Restaurant at 11 a.m followed by a matinee performance at 1 p.m. at the Robinson Theater (Waltham High School). Call the Senior Center for more information.
FAMILY STYLE BREAKFAST
The Dine Out Group of the Senior Center will go to the Three Seasons restaurant at the Blackstone Valley Tech High School on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 8:4 a.m. Call the center to make a reservation. Transportation may be available from the center.
MEDICAL DRIVERS NEEDED
A need exists for volunteers to drive local seniors to out-of-town appointments. Drivers are reimbursed 50 cents per mile. Any time – one day per week, morning or afternoon – would be appreciated. Call the senior center for more detailed information.
MEALS ON WHEELS
Due to the recent high volume of Meals on Wheels requests, reservations are needed 48 hours in advance for congregate meals at the nutrition site.
SENIOR POOL LEAGUE
There is a need for pool players for the Wednesday morning League. Drop by to the center or call and the office and ask to speak to league coordinator Ken Guhman.
DURABLE MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
The Northbridge Senior Center has a variety of durable medical equipment available for senior residents. There is no fee for this service. Come into the center and someone will be available to show you what is available. In order to serve you better, the center asks that you leave your name, address and phone number with the office staff. This helps keep track of our inventory.
CODE RED EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION
The Northbridge Police Department encourages residents to enroll in the town's new emergency notification system, Code RED. This system will notify you directly of any emergency information. A computer is necessary to register. The website is www.northbridgepolice.com. Click on the Code RED and enter required information.
