Obituary: Mildred E. (Bowen) Boover, 90

MENDON, Mass. – Mildred E. (Bowen) Boover, 90, of Mendon died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 in Franklin Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Center, Franklin. She was the wife of the late Edward J. Boover who died in 1963.

Mrs. Boover was employed as a quality inspector for the former Foster Forbes Co. in Milford for 10 years, retiring in 1980. She previously worked for Valpey Fisher Co. in Hopkinton, the former Kartiganer Hat Co. in Upton and the former Draper Corp. in Hopedale.

She was born June 18, 1921 in Milford, daughter of the late William R. and Mary E. (Care) Bowen. A lifelong resident of Mendon, she was a graduate of Mendon High School, Mendon and Becker Jr. College, Worcester.

Mrs. Boover attended the Trinity Episcopal Church in Milford. She was a founding member of the Mendon Senior Center, Mendon, and a founding member and recording secretary of the “Mendon Friends of the Elders.”  Millie was a member of the former Milford Grange and Pommona Chapter where she served as a recording secretary for these organizations.

Millie loved gathering with friends at home and at the Mendon Senior Center to play whist, cribbage, bingo and board games. She loved gardening, cooking, sewing, crocheting and embroidery. For many years Millie worked tirelessly crocheting and embroidering many special holiday gift articles for Trinity Episcopal Church events and the Mendon Senior Center craft fair fundraiser.

She is survived by her loving son Edward R. Boover and his wife Karen (Walker) Boover of Mendon; several cousins including Martha Bennett of Bellingham; two nieces, Barbara Hathcoat of Dunbarton, NH and Susan Prokop of Whitinsville; and a nephew Robert Bennett of Palm Bay, FL.. She was predeceased by a sister Marjorie Bennett and her late longtime companion, Dr. Edward Squire.

Funeral services will be private.

There are no public visiting hours.
