NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – Threatening weather didn’t spoil the Whitin Community Center’s fundraiser “Tanglewood in the Park.”
The band “Point and Swing” set up in the center’s gymnasium instead of the adjoining Whitin Park and about 70 men, women and children danced and jived to music from the 40s all the way up to the 80s.
UniBank was the main sponsor for the event, which raises money each year for free and reduced membership to the center for seniors. In addition, the event received an anonymous sponsor from a community member.
Also helping to fund the event was Milford Savings & Loan, Rep. George Peterson (R-Grafton), and Family Orthodontics (Kerry Webb).
In addition to the music, there were beverages, a bake sale, and pizza provided by Harry’s.
Blackstone Valley seniors who would like to take advantage of the many programs offered at the center, but cannot afford membership, should sake for a scholarship form at the main desk.
Among the programs offered for seniors are an almost daily Senior Sneakers aerobics program and swimming exercises to help those with arthritis.
The Community Center is a 501C non-profit organization.
