Obituary: Benjamin "Ben" M. "Red" Carey, 80

SPENCER, Mass. - Benjamin "Ben" M. "Red" Carey, 80, of Spencer died Wednesday Sept. 5, 2012 in his home surrounded by his family.

Ben is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sandra L. Carey, five daughters, Judy A. St. Germain, Denise T. Burnor and Joan A. Bellizzi all of Spencer; Michelle M. Mezynski of Northbridge and Jennifer A. Aucoin of North Brookfield, 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three sisters, Dorothy Aubin, Mary Lauzier and Betty Hogan, two brothers, Raymond Carey and Robert Carey and many nephews and nieces. His first wife, Joan A. (Lucier) Carey died in 1981. He was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Herbert F. Seymour, Jr. and two sisters, Louella Carey and Ellen Tufts.

He was born in Worcester, a son of Benjamin J. and Margaret (Slaney) Carey and has lived in Spencer for 20 years.


Ben worked for Jamesbury Corp. for many years before retiring in 1992. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching old western movies and going out to eat. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. The family would like to thank Worcester VNA Hospice especially Holly and Jessy for the wonderful care Ben received.


The funeral will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 from Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton Street, ( Rte 122 ) Worcester with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St John Church, 40 Temple Street, Worcester. Burial will be private. Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday, Sept. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Care Network Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, Ma. 01608 or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, Ma., 01701.
