NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. - Gilberte T. (Leblond) Sampson, 88, of Northbridge, died on Saturday, September 15, 2012, in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester, after a long illness. Her husband of 32 years, Laurent J. Sampson, died in 1985.
She leaves two sisters: Fernande Carrier of Worcester, formerly of Whitinsville, and Marie Paule Ursini in Quebec Province, Canada; four brothers: Bertrand Leblond, Marcel Leblond, Roger Leblond, and Claude Leblond, all in Quebec Province; and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Born in Manchester, NH, on February 2, 1924, Mrs. Sampson was a daughter of the late Paul and Sarah (Lacroix) Leblond. Raised in Canada, she worked as a hairdresser in Saint-Damien-de-Bellechasse, PQ, before returning to the United States and settling in Northbridge in 1952. She worked as a machine operator at the J. J. O'Donnell textile mill, South Grafton, and as a domestic aide at Westborough State Hospital before she retired in 1981.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Parish and the Ladies Auxiliary of Oliver Ashton Post #343, American Legion, both in Northbridge. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Sampson's family would like to extend a public word of gratitude and thanks to the staff of the Harmony Village Unit of Notre Dame LTCC for the wonderful care she received there.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 19, in the chapel of Notre Dame du Lac Assisted Living, 555 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Whitinsville. There are no calling hours.
