Obituary: Irene C. (Duvernay) Beauchamp, 96

UXBRIDGE, Mass. - Irene C. (Duvernay) Beauchamp, 96, of North Uxbridge/Linwood, died Dec. 19 at St. Camillus Health Center in Whitinsville after a period of declining health.

She leaves behind her three adopted children; Darlene Marguerite Beauchamp-Dorcas of Holyoke, Kevin Beauchamp of Norfolk, and former Northbridge Selectman Gary R. Beauchamp, of Grafton Center. She is also survived by her granddaughter Nicole Marie Dorcas and her fiancé Vincent Mauro Jr. of New Haven, CT, along with several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special cousin, Lorraine Dufault of Linwood, and Alan E. Provost of Holyoke whom she loved like a son. Irene was predeceased by her sisters Mrs. Donald (Florence) Paul, Mrs. Maurince “Inky” (Anita) Tancrell and brother Raymond Duvernay. Irene was the former wife of the late Walter “Butch” Beauchamp.

Irene was born in Pawtucket, RI to Ernest and Marguerite (Departie) Duvernay.

During the height of the depression, her parents were able to send her to Rivier College in Nashua, NH. When her children were very young, Irene survived a major bout with breast cancer. After her children were educated at Good Shepherd School, as she was, she returned to the workforce. Irene was the ladies department manager at the former Fair Department Store.

She was an original tenant at the Crown & Eagle Housing complex in N. Uxbridge for nearly 30 years. Well into her 90s, Irene was very active with the Uxbridge Senior Center, having served as president of the Friends of the Elders. While she was a talented seamstress and detailed craft person, her true love was “Beano”. She traveled the many bingo halls through the Blackstone valley, though she never had a driver’s license.

Friends and relatives are invited to gather for a calling hour Saturday, Dec. 22, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Tancrell-Jackman Funeral Home, 35 Snowling Rd., Uxbridge. Her funeral will follow with a Mass at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 121 Linwood St., Linwood. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Camillus Health Center, 447 Hill St. Whitinsville, MA 01588.
