Obituary: Madeleine A. (Giroux) Ferrandino, 90

WEST BOYLSTON, Mass. – Madeleine A. (Giroux) Ferrandino, 90, of Hillside Village Drive, died peacefully on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester. Her beloved husband of 60 years, Patsy Ferrandino died in 2000.

She is survived and will be lovingly missed by her daughter, Gloria J. Ferrandino of West Boylston; three granddaughters, Patricia Stankevitz and her husband William of Northbridge, Pamela Costa of West Boylston and Robin Ferguson of Leominster; two great-grandchildren, Melanie and Ashley Stankevitz; her son-in-law, Walter Costa of Sterling; nephews and nieces. Besides her husband, Madeleine is predeceased by a daughter, Elaine J. Costa, three brothers, George, Robert and Alfred Giroux, and four sisters, Theresa Satterly, Delta Ferraro, Veronica Carrier and Martha Ledoux.

Born and raised in Worcester, Madeleine was one of eight children, the daughter of Albert and Yvonne (Duchesneau) Giroux, and lived 72 years in West Boylston.

Madeleine worked at Vellumoid Inc. in Worcester for 27 years retiring in 1984. She was a charter member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in West Boylston, its Women’s Guild and later affiliated with St. Christopher Church in Worcester.

She enjoyed knitting and vacationing in Maine with her family. Madeleine was a hardworking and industrious woman and will be remembered for her nurturing, gentle and kind nature. Family meant everything to Madeleine; she was always there for her husband, children and grandchildren sharing faith and encouraging them to meet every day with optimism.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling, and again at 9 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home followed by a procession to St. Christopher Church, 950 West Boylston Street (Rte. 12), Worcester for Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Entombment will be at Notre Dame Mausoleum, 162 Webster Street, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
