NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. - Margaret (Peg) Cochrane Hanny, 89, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was married to the late Irwin "Dick" Hanny, her childhood sweetheart, best friend, and love of her life. They were married for 67 years with a lifelong friendship of 73 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura K. Hanny of Whitinsville; son, Mark Hanny, and his wife, Gail, of Wilton, Ct; two grandchildren, Lauren and Megan Hanny; and her dear sister, Eleanor Lloyd.
Mrs. Hanny was born in Whitinsville, January 30, 1923, a daughter of George L. and Margie (Hamilton) Cochrane, and grew up on Highland Street, in the home her father built. She graduated from Northbridge High School and was employed as an assistant town accountant in the Northbridge Town Hall for many years. She was a 68 year member of the Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church in Whitinsville.
Peg carried on the spirit and values of her father's Irish spirit, and her mother's long time English roots in her dedicated love of her family, and her good works. She maintained friendships of 85 years with her childhood friends. People described her as a kind, classy lady, and she will be sorely missed by her son, daughter, and family.
Mrs. Hanny's funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, in the Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church. There are no calling hours.
