UXBRIDGE, Mass. – Stuart Schotanus, 90, of Uxbridge, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 in the Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge. He was the husband of the late Helen (Bardier) Schotanus who died in 2005.
He is survived by three grandchildren, Kimberlin F. Marshall, William Lambert and Tammy Lambert; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by two daughters, Joanne Y. Judkins who died in 2011 and Florence T. Reed who died in 2006 and two brothers, Bert Schotanus and Hessel Schotanus and one sister Bertha Gjeltema.
Mr. Schotanus had been employed as a machinist for the David Gesner Co. in Worcester until his retirement in 1987 and during his retirement, he worked for J & S Motors in Whitinsville.
He was born April 11, 1922 in the Netherlands, son of the late Raymond and Froukje (DeJong) Schotanus. In 1923, he came from the Netherlands to the United States. Prior to moving back to Uxbridge for the past 2 years, he lived in Northbridge, Uxbridge and Grafton for more than 50 years.
Mr. Schotanus enjoyed travelling with his late wife and her family. He loved all sports and his two German Shepherds, Fritz and Dutchess.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the Buma Funeral Home, 101 N. Main St. (Rte. 122), Uxbridge, MA 01569. Interment will follow in Riverdale Cemetery, Providence Rd., Northbridge. Visiting hours will be held Friday, Nov. 23, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Stuart and Helen Schotanus to the Alzheimer’s Association, Mass/NH Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
