NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. — A police chase that started Friday in Northbridge ended with the driver of a reportedly stolen vehicle dead after a head-on collision on Route 122 in Uxbridge, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early said.
The man driving the reportedly stolen SUV with Rhode Island plates was not identified. The driver of the other vehicle, Anthony Southwick, 30, of Uxbridge, was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester with serious injuries, Early said.
Northbridge police attempted to stop the SUV after it was spotted in the Rockdale section of Northbridge. It continued south on Route 122, with Uxbridge police picking up pursuit after it crossed the town line, the DA's office said in a statement.
Uxbridge police allowed the vehicle to pull away shortly before the Ford Explorer crossed into the northbound lane and collided with Southwick's Toyota pickup truck, the statement said.
The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, Uxbridge police and Northbridge police were investigating the crash with the assistance of the regional accident reconstruction team.

Police chase kills a teen whose only offense was stealing a car, and seriously injures an innocent man. Police should have a lot more reason than a stolen car to engage in this dangerous practice.
Scoogy guess some are just gun hoe, and maybe they were told to back off but guess they don't always listen.
At Radio Shack, Wal-Mart, and any other electronic store or on line web site these little black boxes called scanners are sold and if local people want to educate themselves they can purchase one or more of these items and they can listen in the home, on the road and they would be abel to hers statements like Lieut. Labrie tell his persuing officers to "Back off, and just keep the vehicle insight we don't want any one getting killed". Unlike the man speeding away from police in a stolen suv on our public roads it really seems as though the only person at fault is the dead thief! I believe the Northbridge and Uxbridge Police did everthing possible to keep the outcome from turning tragic great job!!!
Yes it's sad that a innocent man was injured in this incident, but look on the bright side the car thief stole more that he could handle when he decided in his own mind that stealing a car would be a great idea.Let's face it he crossed that thin line between right and wrong and death was waiting on him to serve justice.
Why are you trying to blame the Uxbridge Police before any of the details are investigated? Lets get the facts before we start placing blame.
No I did not blam the Uxbride Police I said IF it was the police's fault
If this was caused by the police not backing off the chase I only hope the officer's involved are disciplined to the full extend of the law. A innocent man was injuried in this accident.
Union Man,
Maybe watch for a possible conclusive statement when all the possible facts are digested by the authorities.
Some may also try to question the Police for not stopping the vehicle earlier, or why not this or that? Sometimes our Public Servants are in a no win situation.
Union Man if it was a perfect World we may not need Police Officer's also?
Our thoughts and prayers are with all involved in this incident..
