NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – A Northbridge man was among six arrested Wednesday in an alleged heroin transaction in Worcester.
According to Worcester police, Derek Doyon, 33, of 11 West St., Whitinsville, was charged with possession of a Class A substance and conspiracy to violate controlled substance laws.
Also arrested were two Douglas men and three Worcester men.
Timothy Shurick, 35, of 12 Johnson Court, Douglas, and Heath Quintal, 33, of 76 Cedar St., Douglas, were both charged with possession of a Class A substance and conspiracy to violate controlled substance laws.
Rosell Lamadrid, 19, of 7 Laurel St., Apt. 1, Worcester, and Luis Pena-Delacruz, 27, of 5 Aetna St., Worcester, were charged with possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute, distribution of a Class A substance and conspiracy to violate substance control laws.
Jose Vinales of 7 Laurel St., Worcester, was charged with trafficking a Class A substance and conspiracy to violate controlled substance laws.
Police said a search of 7 Laurel St., conducted under a warrant, found about 25 grams of heroin valued at $36,389, packaging material and drug paraphernalia.
The arrests occurred as the Worcester Vice Squad was conducting surveillance around 7 Laurel St., part of an investigation into the alleged illegal distribution of heroin by 29-year-old Jose Vinales of Worcester.
Vinales was charged in October with trafficking in heroin and distributing heroin, police said. He was released on bail, but police said he continued to operate a heroin distribution network.
While conducting surveillance, police said, they saw Vinales leave the apartment and enter a Ford Taurus with two other people later identified as Lamadrid and Pena Delacruz. Police said they followed the vehicle to Hooper Street, where it stopped behind a green Suzuki sport utility vehicle. Lamadrid and Delacruz got out of the Taurus, entered the Suzuki and drove to Eastern Avenue, police said. Vinales then drove the Taurus back to the Laurel Street apartment.
On Eastern Avenue, police said, Lamadrid and Delacruz were met by three people who approached them in a white sedan. Officers said they saw a drug transaction take place. As officers approached the white sedan on foot, they saw numerous needles and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, police said. Officers said they also recovered two half-gram bags of heroin in the vehicle.
Doyon, Shurick and Quintal, the three people in the vehicle, were arrested at that time.
After those arrests, police said, they stopped Lamadrid and Delacruz and recovered seven half-grams bags of heroin in their vehicle.
Police found Vinales at 7 Laurel St. and informed him of the investigation. Vinales showed officers where he had a sandwich bag containing 80 half-gram bags of heroin, police said.
