NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – A near head-on collision with a police cruiser on Providence Road Saturday, July 28 led to the arrest of David A. Hutchinson, 53, of 68 Fletcher St., Whitinsville, Northbridge Police said.
Northbridge Police Officer Randy Lloyd said he was patrolling Providence Road near Shaw’s Supermarket in a marked police cruiser at about 6:24 p.m. when a vehicle driving in the opposite direction allegedly veered into his travel lane.
Lloyd said he turned around and followed the vehicle for about a mile in a low-speed pursuit, attempting to pull it over. The vehicle eventually stopped on Church Street at Prospect Street.
After an investigation, Hutchinson, the operator, was arrested and charged with drunken driving (third and subsequent offence), failing to stop for a police officer, and a marked lanes violation.
Hutchinson was held at the Northbridge Police Department pending bail. He will be arraigned Tuesday, July 31 in Uxbridge District Court.
Sgt. Shawn Heney and Officers Randy Lloyd and Matthew Leonard made the arrest.
