NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – A resident of the Linwood Mills apartment complex in Whitinsville is recovering from a gunshot wound from an accidental shooting that occurred Tuesday morning.
Police said they responded to a call from Linwood Mills at about 6:30 a.m. According to a Linwood Mill resident, the unidentified man was found in the lobby of the building by another resident on her way to the mailboxes.
Police said the man accidentally discharged his firearm and the bullet struck him in the abdomen. He was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment and discharged the same day.
Residents became fearful during the day as police investigated the incident, a resident said, but the apartment management team released a statement later in the day to reassure them there was no danger.
The statement said: “As many of you may be aware, there was an incident this morning on the property. Management is working with the Northbridge Police Department who are investigating this incident. .. Northbridge Police has assured us that there are no safety concerns for the residents. The police will keep management up to date on the investigation.”
The firearm was lawfully possessed and there was no danger to any of the residents, police said.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Northbridge Police Department and State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early’s office.
