NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – Northbridge High School graduates from the Class of 1971 up to the Class of 2012 gathered on the basketball court at the high school Wednesday night in the first annual alumni basketball game.

It wasn’t just a game, however. The 48 participants and the more than 250 spectators raised money to honor Kenneth P. Baker, a 2004 Northbridge High School graduate who died in a traffic accident in New York City on Sept. 30, 2012.

Baker was a member of the NHS varsity basketball team, serving as its captain his senior year. He also played football and soccer.

His father, Paul Baker, is a 1979 graduate of Northbridge High School and has been coaching varsity basketball at NHS since 1999.

His sister, Ryan Baker, who graduated from NHS in 2010 and is the starting point guard at Rivier College in New Hampshire, played on the maroon team Wednesday night.

The 48 players were broken into four teams: gray, white, maroon and black. The players wore their graduation years on their backs.

Two scholarships are planned: the Kenneth Baker Memorial Scholarship and a camp scholarship at the Whitin Community Center.

Donations to the scholarship fund may be send to Northbridge Basketball Alumni, care of Aaron Katz, 427 Linwood Ave., Whitinsville, MA 01588.

A list of players can be viewed here.
