NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. - The Northbridge School Department, responding to reports of west nile virus found in mosquitoes on Providence Road,  has made arrangements with the Central Mass Mosquito Control Project to spray the school grounds and athletic fields.

The CMCP will spray the grounds and fields of  Balmer Elementary School, Northbridge Middle School, and Northbridge High School on Thursday, Sept. 6 after 8 p.m.

All grounds and fields will be open and safe the following day, noted Interim Schools Superintendent Nancy Spitulnik.

Anyone with questions or concerns should call the Central Mass Mosquito Control Project at 508-393-3055.

The Northbridge School Department has posted a fact sheet from the Centers for Disease Control on the district and school websites that gives practical information on avoiding mosquitoes and on the West Nile infection. The fact sheet is also attached here.

Though few people become seriously ill from this virus, it is best to avoid exposure to mosquitoes as much as possible, officials said.
