NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. - Due to the predicted snowstorm, Northbridge is canceling school for Friday, Feb. 8. All sports and school activities are also canceled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency is predicting an "historic" storm, with a high confidence of 1 to 2 feet of snow for most of Massachusetts, snow drifts up to 5 feet, and gale force or hurricane force winds, School Superintendent Nancy Spitulnik said.
"Even though the heaviest snow isn't predicted to start until early Friday afternoon, we felt it would be too risky to have an early release day. If the predicted timing of the storm changes, we don't want to be transporting students home in dangerous conditions. Letting parents know this decision now will give them more time to make arrangements for tomorrow,'' she said.
Town officials have also issued the following winter storm message:
"Northbridge Emergency Management officials are closely monitoring the upcoming winter storm and preparing for its impact on the community. Should you need emergency assistance during the storm event, please contact the Northbridge Fire Department at 508-234-8448 or the Northbridge Police Department at 508-234-6211. We urge you to closely follow news and weather reports so you can remain safe throughout this storm."
