WOONSOCKET, RI – The Sept. 1 deadline is rapidly approaching for teams and individuals to register to participate in the 2012 UniBank Blackstone River Valley Greenway Challenge Adventure Race.
The Greenway Challenge is New England's premier “Adventure Race — Like No Other” in which teams and individuals run, paddle, and bike in a variety of competitive and fun divisions through the Blackstone River Valley in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The race will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29.
This year, the race will begin at Diamond Hill Park in Cumberland, RI, and finish at River Bend Farm in Uxbridge, Mass. The course, which is redesigned each year, will total 44.5 miles and consist of seven segments. The event includes three running segments — trail (1.5 miles), street (5 miles), and cross country (4 miles); two biking segments — mountain (5 miles) and street (22 miles); and two paddle segments (3 miles and 4 miles).
Teams — and individuals competing as an Ironman or Ironwoman — must register by Sept. 1 to participate. Registration information is available on the Greenway Challenge website at http://www.greenwaychallenge.org or by calling 401-762-0250 ext 5503.

The mission of the 2012 UniBank Blackstone River Valley Greenway Challenge is to promote the recreational quality of life in the Blackstone River Valley. Working with the John H. Chafee Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission and other partner organizations, the Greenway Challenge, in its 12th year, supports clean water campaigns, hiking and biking trails, wildlife projects, environmental education and development of waterway access. In addition, the race’s 2012 Charitable Recipient, the Governor Aram J. Pothier Elementary School in Woonsocket, RI, will receive a $2,500 donation from the proceeds of the event.

I had a TOTALLY rewarding experience volunteering for the 2011 challenge. If you can get out and support these amateur athlete-teams & cheer them on as they pass whether on foot, bike or water they will be grateful & maybe YOU will be the person who inspires their finish! ( You might also get motivated to get a team together & participate in the 2013 challenge...)
