NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – Umbrellas offered protection from sun rather than from rain Saturday at the third annual 3v3 Tournament held by the Northbridge Youth Soccer Association.
The umbrellas and team tents scattered along the sidelines of the soccer fields behind Northbridge High School provided some relief from the hot sun as more than 100 teams, from as far away as Gardner and Rockland participated in the event that continues today.
Also providing relief from a long, steep walk in the hot sun were chauffeured golf carts that ferried participants, many carrying coolers, tents and lawn chairs, from the high school parking lot to the upper fields.
Tournament games were played from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with U8 and U10 medal ceremonies after the last game.
Action continues today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with trophy presentations following the last game.
In addition to the games, Saturday's festivities included music, food, a moon walk, face painting, games and a costume contest that had teams with names like Chaos and Ninja Turtles, with members dressed accordingly.
