If i recall, the impact to each taxpayer would not be enormous. With an understanding that the economy is bad and people are struggling to get by, I fully understand your comment. The problem with proposals like this, is that every individual tax payer boils it down to their own problems/impact. If people look at the situation in entirety, the impact does not appear to be so great.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to give any form of government any more taxes than I already do. But one needs to remember, Taxes were lowered this year by the school being paid off early so each person already got a break at one point from the town. Also, with all the equipment sitting outside, I believe more is being paid in maintenance costs to keep our towns' equipment running.
To sum it up, people need to realize that while the $8-9 million number looks large, once it is divided up amongst all, it is not a huge impact. View Comment
Asst Superintendent = Lieutenant Governor. Both are basically unneeded positions with high pay. Like Taxmanone said, hire a lower pay administrative assistant to assist the superintendent. View Comment

With all that wood coming down the town should see if there is any opportunity to donate the wood to people in town requiring heating assistance or if it could be sold to benefit any activities in town that require some financial assistance.
There is a lot of wood to be taken down and at roughly $200 a cord, this could turn into a good boost to the bottom line of a program that needs extra money. View Comment
I am impressed that it is the tea party's fault, good stretch. Another alternative conspiracy theory could be related to the fact that there is so much uncertainty in Washington, which is controlled by 2/3rds Democrats (WH and Senate) that people are choosing to be more selective in what they voted for.

This proposal was going to fail from the start. How can a DPW operate efficiently out of two locations? Why would the town leaders want to take a property off of the tax roll?
If the 8 million original DPW project was actually put in front of the voters, I would have voted in favor of that as it made the most sense. Now, we are stuck with a decrepit DPW building, most of the equipment is left out in the rain/sleet/snow/heat/cold and will be ruined way before the end of its useful life and I would not blame anyone who works at the DPW if they decided it was time to move on to a new job.

Instead of a select group of people on committees making decisions on what is the best approach why not solicit the people of the town to see what they feel is the best option.
The bottom line lies in the fact that something needs to be done. The DPW can not continue to operate out of the existing facility. I agree that a special election may be needed to solve the large DPW issue. At an election put all the choices that have been proposed in front of the residents of the town and let them make their own votes to see which has the biggest support. View Comment
Obama was equally arrogant. He still can not admit that his policies have failed and keeps going back to the I inherited a mess line. We need someone with the ability to get things done in the white house not someone who points fingers.

The town already spent $76k on the feasibility study for the Fletcher St property. Why not put that on the town ballot and let the residents of the town actually vote on the project before killing it.
The article references the $3mil price tag for the property on douglas road, but it does not mention how much tax revenue will be lost over the useful life of the property.
I for one, would vote for the new Fletcher St. site. We are talking roughly $.37 a day. Taxes already went down when the school was paid off. Why not let the residents have a say instead of just saying no? View Comment

Guys, if you have so many ideas then why don't you all either run for selectman or any other position of power in town to get something done. Seeing how our taxes are the lowest of any community around, I would pony up the extra .30 something cents to go with the original 8mill proposal at Fletcher St. especially since taxes went DOWN because of the highschool payoff.
If there weren't so many cheap people in this town they would be breaking ground at Fletcher street by now. But hey, it gives you all a chance to piss, moan, and point fingers as to why this isn't done. View Comment

The current WH administration has done nothing but devalue the dollar, increase the national debt, and also increase the cost of living for families in the country. On the positive side though, welfare/SNAP recipients, the amount of unemployed people is on the rise, and nothing has been done to curb wasteful spending in Washington.
