Then we do disagree Bubbly. Many accidents (and/or crimes) happen with vehicles but we work together to limit them and make adjustments as we go. No better example than drunk driving.
Assault weapons are falling into the wrong hands and being used in acts of terrorism. We can do better to limit (not eliminate) the availability and protect the 2nd amendment at the same time. Just like we can do more to address mental health issues, troubled youths, etc.

Maybe--but I don't buy the father becoming a hero by preventing his son from getting his illegal AK-47. The guy is a criminal for having it in the first place. This the exact type of household that exemplifies the need to reduce the number of automatic weapons. I'm thankful we have one more out of circulation! View Comment
Bubbly-Respect everything you said and thanks for the education until "brat kid". How is this a "brat kidd"-we don't know anything but based on the use of a bat and hammer escalating violence seems like a real possibility. I applaud the kid for eliminating the risk and hope the two of them figure out a way to work things out. View Comment

Do you really think you will need 30 rounds to protect yourself someday? Based on the dialogue, you clearly have experience with guns and there is no way you'll need 30 rounds. You may want 30 rounds for some kicks on a range, but you don't need them to protect yourself. Sorry-I just don't share your paranoia. You may be right and say I told you so at my wake some day, but I just don't have it. Not saying I'm right-I just don't get it.

Doesn't have a great hook to the assualt weapon discussion so I kind of took us on a tangent, but I do wonder if the excitement of using the gun was involved. In this case-my pellet gun would be perfect. As my old boss would say "he took a hammer to a nat".
End of the day, clearly this guy retired too early-he needs the action! His resume would lend itself to be a perfect candidate for the NRA's call for armed gaurds in schools. Apparently he had the right to protect his live stock. He had two rabbits in a pen and suggested the dog was stressing them out. Fired a warning shot and then took the dog down in what looked like a pretty residential neighborhood.
Fair point on the gun type, I'm not sure the gun type mattered? If it was a 22, I'm not suggesting we ban that. I do wonder if he did what he did out of a need to use the AR15 but who knows? As a suspect a guy like this would have a 22, why didn't he use that? Just as a side note: Also took the shots from his bedroom window. Why get out of bed to get rid of the dog when you can use an AR15! View Comment
We have certainly strengthened laws to help prevent drunk driving over the years which has helped save lives. Hasn't prevented drunk driving completely, but certainly tougher laws, more awareness and precautions has saved lives.

Not inclined to define because people like you nitpick the terminology. But I will start-how about banning clips that hold more than 10 rounds? If you need more than 10 rounds to protect your family you shouldn't have a gun to begin with. As for me, I'll get someone out of my house with my pellet gun.
