She has a bachelor's degree in English from Stony Brook University and a Master's degree in publishing from Pace University. She married with four teenage children and is a competitive runner and avid exerciser.

Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, on Jan. 31, 1939, documentary filmmaker Pare Lorentz screened his latest film "The Fight For Life" at the White House. The president told Lorentz that it was a “fine movie” and he hoped it would do some good. The film was released to the public in 1940 and focused on infant and maternal mortality in the United States.
