Teacher, 32, Sexually Assaults Paterson 9-Year-Old In Classroom, Prosecutor Says
A 32-year-old New Jersey teacher has been charged with sexually assaulting a 9-year-old student, authorities said.
Paul Yang, of Leonia, carried out the act inside of a classroom in Paterson in October, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.
The Institutional Abuse Investigation Unit of the Division of Child Protection and Permanency told detectives that the 9-year-old “had disclosed that an incident of abuse took place inside a classroom during the school day,” on Oct. 22, the prosecutor said.

Manheim Township High School teacher, David Sean Burkhart, 45, of the 700 block of Scott Lane in Warwick Township, was charged with three counts of sexual abuse of children, one count of unlawful contact with a minor, and two counts of criminal use of a communication facility, Manheim Township Police Det. Westchester's Hernan Kenny, of Pelham Manor, died Monday, Nov. 10, at Jacobi Hospital at the age of 35, according to his obituary. A cause of death was not given.
Born in Santiago, Chile, Kenny was a longtime Westchester resident who leaves behind a wife and two young sons “who were the center of his world,” his memorial said.

Several New Jersey schools are among the best in the nation, according to new rankings released this week.
U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in education rankings, announced its 2026 Best Elementary and Middle Schools list on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
