Stand Up Paddleboard Program Takes Off For Sherman Woman SHERMAN, Conn. -- When Sherman resident Kristin Hart decided to start a Stand Up Paddleboard program in 2011 on Candlewood Lake, little did she know how quickly it would take off. She currently teaches the sport to 40 to 60 students each week. Stand up paddleboard, known as SUP, is essentially standing up on an oversized surfboard with one blade. Beach Reads To Classics: Get Bargains At Westport Library's Book Sale WESTPORT, Conn. — The Westport Library’s Book Sale is a staple of the summer season.  The sale, now in its 24th year, expects to enjoy 10,000 “walk-ins” flocking to Jesup Green and the McManus Room to browse through 100,000 books. They will spend well over $100,000 — all of which supports the library’s programming and acquisitions. Easton Girl Scout Earns Gold Award For Adding Recycling At Sports Fields EASTON, Conn. — Claire Elaine DeCarlo of Easton has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting. DeCarlo's project aimed to bring her community together and put a stop to the abundance of plastic bottles.  Focusing on the issue of overflowing trash receptacles at local sports fields, DeCarlo created proper recycling containers to be placed on each field and to be collected by the Easton Emergency Medical Services, which uses the proceeds to fund medical supplies.  Because of her project, the Easton Parks and Recreation Department has also imposed a fine for those w…
