Metro-North To Replace Ties, Resurface Track Beds Along New Haven Line FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — With the return of spring, Metro-North Railroad will begin its program of right-of-way improvements to ensure the safety and reliability of its trains. According to "Mileposts," a newsletter for MTA Metro-North Railroad customers, the following work has been completed or is in the process of being completed: On the Hudson and New Haven Lines, Metro-North intends to replace 44,800 ties, as well as resurface 91 miles of track bed. Metro-North Railroad does surfacing to remove small surface and alignment deviations by compacting the stone under the ties.
