It's A Real Hoot: Police, Wildlife Expert Free Owl From Beacon Soccer Net
BEACON, N.Y. -- Owls are generally thought of as wise old birds, but, it seems, they are no match for soccer nets.
The raptors, who hunt for mice and rabbits at night frequently fall prey to netting used in sports such as soccer, badminton and volleyball, say wildlife experts.
Smaller nocturnal hunters, such as screech owls, can get entangled in the faux spider webs folks hang on Halloween, according to Suzie Gilbert, a wild bird rehabilitator and author from Cold Spring.
Gilbert was called to the scene of the latest avian crime Saturday thanks, she said, to social media.

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- A Mount Vernon recreation official’s 32 percent raise was justified, long overdue and has nothing to do with her state pension, city officials said this week, according to a report by lohud.com.

They did not identify the shop.
Baioni was arraigned in Southeast Town Court and sent to Putnam County Jail in lieu of $1,500 cash bail, or $5,000 bond.

Norwalk Police, Coast Guard Team To Keep Boaters Safe
NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Police Department’s Marine Unit, which is tasked with keeping boaters safe in the harbor, recently teamed with the Coast Guard to conduct vessel safety checks.
While the unit patrols the area’s waterways year-round, it steps things up during the summer boating season.
In June, its commander, Sgt. Peter Lapak, told The Norwalk Hour the unit had had to respond to nearly a dozen accidents since the year’s start, most of them involving boats that had run aground.
Lapak told the The Norwalk Hour he found it odd that, in the era of sophisticated navigating equipment…
