James Osler Jr. Of Somers Point Dies, 36
James "Jim" Osler, of Somers Point, died on Aug. 24 due to complications of kidney disease, according to his obituary on the Adams-Perfect Funeral Home website. He was 36 years old. A U.S. Army veteran who served six years, Jim worked as an HVAC Technician for the Local 68 at Bally's Casino in Atlantic City, his obituary says. 4-Year-Old Drowns In Pond, Found 50 Yards From Family's Monroe Township Home: Police
A 4-year-old child drowned in a pond behind a home in Middlesex County on Wednesday, Aug. 27, authorities said. Police were called to a Monroe Township home around 6:50 p.m. for a missing child, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Monroe Township Police Chief Griffin M. Banos said. A search for the 4-year-old ensued. The child was found in a pond 50 yards from the back deck of the family’s home, and wasn’t breathing, police said. A New Jersey Lottery ticket good for more than $1.3 million was sold in Bergen County. The ticket was from Tuesday's, Aug. 27 Jersey Cash 5 jackpot. The winning numbers were: 07, 15, 37, 38 and 45 and the XTRA number was: 02. The Bullseye number was 07. The retailer will receive a bonus check for $2,000 for the winning ticket sold. Unlicensed Belleville Man Busted On Stolen Moped In Lyndhurst: Police
A 48-year-old Belleville man was arrested in Lyndhurst after police caught him on a stolen moped without a license. Lyndhurst Officer Anthony Morreale was on patrol near Riverside Avenue and Valley Brook Avenue when he saw a moped cruising south on Riverside Avenue without a license plate on Monday, Aug. 26, Lyndhurst Police Detective Lt. Vincent Auteri said. Morreale proceeded to follow the moped before executing a traffic stop. Whooping Cough Cases Just Tripled In NJ, Health Department Says
The New Jersey Health Department has issued an advisory due to an increase in whooping cough cases across both the United States and New Jersey. Pertussis, or whooping cough, is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by bacteria that live in the mouth, nose, and throat of an infected person, the NJDOH said.
