Danbury Synagogue Celebrates Jewish New Year With Unique Lake Tradition DANBURY, Conn. -- For the Jewish New Year, about 75 to 100 members of the United Jewish Center in Danbury gather around the lake at Bennett Memorial Park in Bethel to take part in a unique Rosh Hashanah tradition. Everyone takes pieces of bread and, at the same time, throws them into the lake. The bread is meant to represent their sins from the previous year. Bethel Middle School Principal Sets High Goals In First Year On Job BETHEL, Conn.-- Nicholas DaPonte, Bethel Middle School's new principal, said he really enjoys working with children in this age group. Racing Pigeon Lands In Fairfield Chicken Pen After Wrong-Way Flight FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Denise Darnell of Fairfield was startled while feeding her eight chickens Tuesday afternoon by a pigeon that suddenly flew into the pen — and knew that she needed to do some detective work.
