Newtown Reps Support Expanding Aid For Firefighters With Cancer NEWTOWN, Conn. -- State Reps. J.P. Sredzinski (R-Newtown and Monroe) and Mitch Bolinsky (R-Newtown) voted in support of a measure that will expand coverage for firefighters who suffer from cancer caused directly by their job. Under the legislation, HB 5262, a new “Firefighters Cancer Relief Account” will be created and run by the Connecticut State Firefighters Association and will be used to provide wage replacement benefits for eligible firefighter cancer victims and to pay associated administrative costs. Shelton High Student Receives Scholarship For Volunteering At Hospital SHELTON, Conn. -- Andrew Krzywosz of Shelton High School is one of this year's recipients of Griffin Hospital's annual scholarships.The $1,000 and $1,500 scholarships are awarded to high school volunteers who plan to attend college next school year. Ridgefield Native Tucker West Named To USA Luge Team RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – Ridgefield native Tucker West will once again be a member of the USA Luge National Team for the 2016-17 season. West, 20, was the youngest member of the USA luge team at the Sochi Olympics. He earned two World Cup medals and was the U23 World Champion last season. New Fairfield, Brookfield Reps Welcome Wcsu President To Capitol BROOKFIELD, Conn. — State Reps. Jan Giegler and Stephen Harding welcomed Western Connecticut State University President John Clark to the state Capitol recently. Giegler is a Republican who represents Danbury, New Fairfield and Ridgefield. Harding is a Republican who represents Danbury, Brookfield and Bethel. Bethel Couple Launch Kickstarter Campaign For 'Noteworthy Chocolate' Biz BETHEL, Conn. -- Bethel entrepreneurs Michael and Jennifer Sauvageau have launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for their new business, "Noteworthy Chocolates, candy with a message, your message." “Our deadline is May 15 and so far, we have raised more than half of our needed total ($27,000) to become full time chocolatiers," said Michael Sauvageau, who is formerly of Danbury. Greenknoll YMCA In Brookfield Puts On Successful Healthy Kids Day BROOKFIELD, Conn. -- The Greenknoll YMCA in Brookfield organized many successful activities for its Healthy Kids Day last weekend.Some of the activities included: The Brookfield Police Department and The City of Danbury Police Department were in attendance talking about bicycle safety. The Bicycle Center was on hand performing free safety checks and allowing people to test ride some of the latest bicycle technology.
